Between The Bluffs

Saturday I spent an afternoon sampling some fantastic beers at the City Brewery Between the Bluffs Beer and Cheese Fest. My brother, brother-in-law, and many friends shared in the glory of beer and cheese. What a beautiful day to be outside drinking! I even earned a few pictures on My only regret was not getting to the New Glarus booth to try the raspberry one. I'll have to find it in the stores. Friday was much more mellow with a dining experience at Casablanca. What began innocently at 7:30 in the evening with a vegetable soup and glass of red wine, ended with some raunchy humor, a stuffed belly, and purple tongue at about 11pm. I think I ate enough to last me the whole week. We'll see how that goes. All in all, a great weekend!

Blocks Of A Writer

So there is this fella I work with who fancies himself a playwright. From the brain that brought you Check, Please! comes Blocks of a Writer. Out of the goodness of my heart, I attended a read-thru of the latest version last night. He does treat us well with hunks of cheese, baskets of crackers and pretzels, and red, red wine.

Above and beyond the snackies, a good night of entertainment was had by all. First of all, this is a group of some of the craziest and funniest people I know. Secondly, the play is really damn funny. Good stuff. Look for it in theatres hopefully next fall. I think I have an in to design programs!

The only complaint I have was the part he had me reading, Woman 3. Early on in the show she says, "I’m a slightly neurotic working gal who records a blog of her quirky everyday activities." To which I busted out laughing as did everyone else there who knows it more than rang true. So this one's for you Todd.

Life Is A Journey, Don't Forget The Lip Gloss

Surprisingly enough, I had a lovely conversation about the Philosophy of Lisa last night. I think my post title really encompasses what I believe about life. I do have a compulsive lip gloss disorder that I feel I need to talk about. Pretty much have to put it on about every two minutes or so...especially while I'm drinking. Can I just say's not you, it's me. Guys always think it's about looking pretty. Really it has 100% to do with my tendency towards compulsive activities of all kinds, the need for moisture, and my self conscious nature about my natural lip color (and the scar). That about sums it up. Now can we just let it go? The party was good times. I would say that good times were had by about 5,000 people last night. My favorite booth had to be the free alcohol sample booth. Unfortunately guys, I don't remember your brand name. They did have a tasty pina colada drink, though. Reminded me of the many I had while in Cancun. Shoulda had cards like the Sand Creek Brewing Company. My favorite story from last night would have to be losing my pedometer in my pants. After going to the rest room, I realized my pedometer was gone. I was disappointed for a few minutes until I realized there was a lump in my pants and it was my pedometer! I reached down and shouted out, "It's in my pants!" Then I proceeded to push it down my leg and out my pants leg. Good times. Within an hour I broke the clip off of the pedometer while telling someone the story, so it has seen its last WLOP. I put on almost 15,000 steps yesterday between 1pm and midnight. Not too shabby! I did have to stay until the bitter end of the party (like usual). I like to make sure everyone is having a good time. Sometimes I see my position in the company as more of a Good Times Ambassador. And I wouldn't pass up dancing on the VIP booth with my coworkers (and former coworkers) at the end of the party for anything in the world. This year we swayed to the Piano Man. It is always a good time and good end to a good day. Until next time. Salut!

Car Trouble

My turn signals have stopped working. The old Beetle is at the shop hoping for an opening today. It hasn't been wanting to switch to the bright lights lately and I'm guessing the turn signal thing is connected, so hopefully they will both be fixed. And I finally can get that brake light switch recall taken care of. As it turns out, I have money to fix my car right now, so a crappy thing couldn't have come at a better time and forced me to take action. On another rosy note, there is a wine tasting at The Wine Guyz tonight! I'm so excited! It has been a very long time since I've attended one there...or been there at all. I think it was before Thanksgiving because I remember purchasing a fantabulous cranberry wine. With my tax returns in my bank account, I can't imagine I won't find something to buy tonight!

Ta Da

Here it is... my new gigantic sectional sofa. My sister and Chuck are relaxing in what I like to call "the sweet spot." The sofa looks bigger in my tiny living room than it did in the store! I may be getting rid of my favoritest chair-and-a-half. :(

On the bonus side, in order to make my old upholstered rocker work now, it has to finally be fixed and reupholstered. Maybe after the new flooring is in. I'm already wondering where I am going to put this gigantic sofa during the renovation.

Thanks to Chuck and my dad for hauling my new sofa, removing the front doors so it could actually make it in the door, and helping me with the assembly! Thanks also to Chuck and my sister for taking the old sofa off my hands for their new basement family room.
Look how much seating there is!

Today Is The Day!

At 11am my employers are taking us out to lunch at Piggy's and probably dishing out stacks of money. Then from 12:30-3pm I have to spend my money. At 3-5pm I'll have to have a celebratory drink at the Starlite Lounge and share what I purchased. I'm leaning toward a patio set. I'm also thinking I might pop into a few furniture stores to do some pricing. So much responsibility. Should I buy something frivolous with free money or put it toward things I want or need anyhow? The clock is ticking and I need to decide! Plan B is to buy a crap-ton of shoes. I'll have to let you know which way this day goes. I may just be carried away on a whim.

I Suppose I Should Mention...

The Vagina Monologues that I have done program design and some ads for. Also on Saturday. This one benefits YWCA CASA for Kids and New Horizons Shelter and Women's Center.

Celebrate Music!

Because you care about music. I just had Miss Midwest in to the radio stations to do some on-air interviews to promote her music benefit concert, Celebrate Music! Procedes will benefit the Holmen and Onalaska music departments. Check out the poster I made for her.

Giant Salad and Taxes

The place across the street makes the most gigantic salads! I enjoyed the Greek with chicken today. Nummy nummerson. Makes me want a gyro, though. It has been a busy morning at work. Just before lunch I finished all the work that landed on my desk this morning and now I'm off to get done all the stuff that was on my list yesterday. It just keeps piling up! I'm seriously sleep-deprived from the last two late nights I had. On Monday I stayed up late to watch the unbelievably-long The Holiday even though I kept wishing it would end. I thought that movie had to have some of the worst acting all across the board that I've seen in a major film in awhile. Maybe it was just way too cheesy for my taste. Last night I attempted to fend off crabbiness with a healthy dose of doing my taxes and wishing I were dead. Next year is the year. I'm going to pay somebody to do that crap for me. The only trick is making enough money to make it seem worthwhile. I have a year to put it off...uh... think about it, so here's hoping.

Across The River And Through The Ikea

On Saturday I travelled across the river into the Minnesota territory to take my dad to my brother's house. I got to see the new little birdy--pretty much still a lump (3 weeks old). I got to play with Toad (avoiding the ever-present hot lava). Then my brother, dad, and I went to go pick up my dad's new truck. Good times. After that, I headed across town to my friend's new apartment. After climbing the four flights of stairs and coming to again, it was pretty fantastic! It was an old hotel that had been renovated into apartments. There are hardwood floors throughout, tan concrete walls, big tall windows, and stainless steel appliances. The only thing that would have made it better would have been hand towels! He does have a lot of fancy new furniture, though. I was so jealous. Saturday night took us to a local Mexican restaurant around the corner from his apartment. We started with margaritas and jumped into the bar scene head-first after that. I got to see a super-high class hotel bar and got a good tour of the downtown. Sunday we did breakfast at Joe's Garage. It was outdoor dining, so obviously fantabulous due to the picture-perfect weather. After that extended dining experience, we went to the Ikea for some light shopping. Who knew there was so much crap there? Good times were had by all. I got art and martini glasses (a small stock of 24). It was quite the experience. I wound down Sunday night with a little rest and relaxation on my friends' river-front porch. Always a good way to end the weekend. And here we go again. We're off...

My Sister's Master Bedroom

The left is the gold color that I painted over. The right is called Pumpkin Toast. It is orangey, but doesn't seem as bright as it does in the picture.

My Newly Painted Living Room

Rock Stars

Remember the limo? That was awesome! Remember the end of the night? Not so much.

Luck Be A Lady Tonight

Happy Friday the 13th! Is it a bad sign that I need to do my taxes tonight? Man alive! I'm looking forward to a night out for Friday fish with the family and then a relaxing evening of doing my taxes. Good times. Who could ask for anything more? Tomorrow I get to travel to the cities...apparently at the butt-crack of dawn. I'm taking my dad with so he can buy a truck up there and blah-dee-blah, I need to leave early. So, I guess tonight really will be low-key. I'll save myself for going out Saturday night downtown Minneapolis. I'm so excited to see my friend's new place! Full disclosure on Monday... maybe.

Catch Up

I was out sick with an unbearable migraine yesterday. Unfortunately, I didn't even have Tylenol in the house, so I suffered and slept. About 6:30pm I was finally able to eat and then I took an aspirin. It dulled the pain slightly so I was able to sleep again. I still have a headache today. My eyes hurt and I'm having a little trouble focusing them. I'm back at work, though, and playing catch up. I have piles of things from my one-day hiatus. I still haven't received all the information for The Vagina Monologues program either, so I still have that one hanging over my head. And how did it all of a sudden get to be tax time? I swear, I've never waited this long to do my taxes--I get money back for cryin' out loud! What is wrong with me? Now I'm looking at my schedule thinking that I've run out of time. I guess I have a full schedule for the next two days before my trip to visit my friend and stop in to check up on the new little birdy. *sigh*

Learning To Let Go

I've been learning to let go since as long as I can remember. I come from a long line of grudge-holders and I know it isn't healthy. I do have to continually work on it, though. In honor of National Forgiveness Day, I suggest you work on forgiving and letting go today too. The world is a much rosier place when you're not holding on to unnecessary hate.

In the same vein, I'm trying to keep in sight why I do graphics projects for benefits and theatre groups. It can be stressfull when you're under a deadline, but it is for a good cause. I wouldn't donate my time and talents unless I believed in what I was doing. I have to keep that in mind. That said, my project is still not done. As I started laying out the design, I realized how much information I was missing. So, I'm waiting on that today. Deadline is still 5pm today. Tic toc.

A Horse of a Different Color

Or was it a house? I painted all weekend at Sara's new house. Check out my top five for the progress report. Tonight I'll be working on program layout for The Vagina Monologues. It is due Tuesday and I didn't get to it over the weekend. I did get to spend some quality time with a group of my friends on Saturday. As it turns out, they were home due to some holiday. We had some good times in the Tremp City. I also spent some time at the folks' house on Sunday and got some devil-carbohydrate-loaded lasagna. Nummy. :) Poor Peanut is wondering where I have been. I don't think I was home very much over the weekend. I pretty much just stopped in to eat (occasionally) and take him out and feed him. The house is a mess. Maybe if I finish the program, I'll be able to get some cleaning done too before I head back to the Holmen Branch for more painting on Tuesday.

A Good Day

I went out for lunch with a few co-workers and then headed to the bloody mary bar. The bloody mary didn't seem to ease the residual pain from last night, so I switched to a Downtown Brown and instantly felt more relaxed. Ahhhh... that's good stuff. It was working so well, I thought I should probably have a second. It turned out to be a lovely afternoon at the bar. I even made it to the paint store to pick up paint cards for my sister. She has picked out her colors and we may watch a movie before heading back to the paint store to purchase the paint. Tomorrow will be a whole day of painting at the Holmen Branch. Hopefully I'll have enough energy left for some good times in the evening. Good night and good luck.

Another Day Older

I feel really, really old today. So, we had too big of a group out last night for any meaningful conversation, but we had some good times. I was definitely out too late and the sleepy time felt like it went by in a blink of the eye. There is nothing I want more than bad food and a bloody mary. :) My sister is getting her belongings delivered to her new home today and I'm on call for assistance, so I have to be fairly good! I also promised to pick up paint cards for her too. I am the master decorator and I want to help her paint before she moves in. It is just easier that way. I'm thinking a good night's sleep and I'll have the energy to paint tomorrow.

Thursday, April 5, 2007

It is a Bodega night. I'm so excited! Sherman is going to be in town, so we are planning on heading out to the Bodega for some good times and meaningful conversation. We have a tendency to go off the deep end sometimes, but it is always a good time. Even better... tomorrow we only have to work a half-day due to the holiday status of the day. Anyone can get through four hours of work. It is the bloody marys waiting for me at the finish line at noon that I'm a little nervous about. After the wine and cheese party Tuesday, happy times at the Starlite on Wednesday, the Bodega tonight, and bloody marys tomorrow, I'll be laying low this weekend for sure-hopefully not in the gutter somewhere. Wish me luck.

Oh My Good God

It is an early morning this morning. We had seminars at work yesterday for our clients culminating in a party at 5pm with wine and cheese. So three glasses of merlot later, it seemed like a brilliant idea to go out drinking more. We had some good times really. We played pool, shot darts, sang karaoke, and stopped for breakfast. What more could you ask for.... maybe four more hours of sleep. That is all I need. Just a little nappy and a blanket. And Peanut to snuggle with me. That is all I need. Just four more hours, nappy, blanket, and Peanut. That is it. That is all I need. Oh, and no more clients. Did I mention there is another seminar this morning? So, just four more hours, a little nappy, a blanket, Peanut, and no more clients. That is it.

Harold and Maude

This one was fantastically creepy. So many people have mentioned it to me recently that I thought it was worth seeing... you know... cult classic and all. That being said, I'm glad it is over. I did take away a small nugget of worldly truth from Maude. She said, "A lot of people enjoy being dead. But they are not dead, really. They're just backing away from life. *Reach* out. Take a *chance*. Get *hurt* even. But play as well as you can. Go team, go! Give me an L. Give me an I. Give me a V. Give me an E. L-I-V-E. LIVE!" Well said, Maude, well said.

Rock Stars

We had a FANTASTICO time of gambling for my friend's birthday. Her hubby even walked out with a nice chunk of change in his pocket. I rented a limo to drive us around like rock stars for my friend's birthday. Like hubby said, "What else are you going to do on a Friday night?" It sure made for a memorable birthday night... the end of the night is a little hazy, though. There were pictures taken. Check back for a posting with those coming soon. I think I'll be using the rest of my film shortly. Yes, I still use film.
