Yesterday I drove to Springfield. It actually hit me for the first time that I wouldn't be coming back home right away. That I-39 stretch nearly killed me, but after getting on I-55 and driving that last hour into Springfield, I couldn't have felt better about it. It is GREEN here! The grass has been mowed...several times in most cases and there is this tree with purple flowers in bloom all along I-55. Oddly enough, it felt like I was coming home. I easily found my hotel, got checked in, and had help transporting my apartment belongings up to my room. I enjoyed dinner and drinks on the first floor Bennigan's and headed up to my room late. I unpacked the essentials for the next day, but that was about it. Today I woke early and after an early departure and only one extra loop around the block of the hotel, was on my way to work. I easily navigated there as well. It feels like I already know where I'm going. After a whole day of firsts at the office, I had my first happy hour at Docker's Bar...well as an employee of the radio station anyhow. After a lovely dinner of garlic chicken, I headed back to the hotel and actually got all my things unpacked and put away! I feel at home and at ease already. I guess I'm ready for day two! If only I had a coffee maker...

I was supposed to depart for Springfield today, but because they were not able to secure a hotel room for me, I'm cooling my heals in my box-filled home. While waiting for hotel arrangements today, I cleaned up my back yard, picked up sticks, raked, and removed leaves from my rose beds. After hanging around for the majority of the afternoon, I decided it was best to stay here another night and hopefully tomorrow they will have hotel accommodations lined up for me. The car is mostly packed and I've taken the suggestion to put together an "overnight" bag with essential items so if I end up moving between hotels within the first couple of days, I will have all the essentials in one easily accessible bag. I think I'm all ready for take off tomorrow, and am turning my thoughts to getting a few more things in boxes around here. I only have one cupboard with dishes left in it (besides the supply of 80+ party glasses). I may have to turn my attention to the basement or garage, and yet, my feet are hot and tired.

You have no idea how much glassware and china was packed tonight! I think I got three boxes of china, four or five of glasses, plus all the relish dishes and stoneware.
I filled in with some Tupperware from the other side of the kitchen just to lighten up the boxes, but I still have a great deal from the other side to go!
As I was wrapping coffee mugs I was thinking how my brother-in-law will appreciate having a choice of coffee mug styles if he ever comes to visit me in Illinois. At one time he tried to convince me I should get rid of some. Although I haven't begun to tackle the dishes stored in my basement, I still wouldn't dream of getting rid of any. If I'm willing to pack them all and move them again, I think it is a pretty good sign they are here to stay!
I have an appointment tomorrow, but after that it is crunch time! If all goes well, I will depart the cheese state on Tuesday. The sooner I get to Illinois, the sooner I can really start looking for a place to live there. I'm anxious to get that ball rolling and so glad my friend, Blondy, is coming down to help! I can hardly wait.

I am getting some things accomplished. Everything in the office and the living room is emptied out and packed up. Peanut follows me from room to room as I pack. You can see him in the hall outside the office and snuggled up on his blanky on the couch. I think he's afraid I'm going to leave him. He's a smart dog, because I am going to leave him with my parents while I head down to Springfield to live in a hotel and look for a permanent place to live. I'm going to miss him so! I discovered it is easier to pack the things I know I won't need in the first three weeks. All the stuff I'm going to need in the hotel is the same stuff I use every day and can't pack until the last minute. However, I'm terrified to start packing the kitchen. I just have so many cupboards and drawers to empty and everything is breakable! I guess I just have to put one arm in front of the other and start pulling stuff off the shelves and putting it into the boxes!

Packing seems to be an endless job and yet I look around my house and it is beginning to not look lived in any longer. The pictures are off the walls, empty boxes are perched on the couch, full boxes are piled up in little bits of empty floor space, and all of my clothes are piled on the guest bed where they are finding their way into various suitcases. My friends and relatives would be shocked to see the general level of chaos and disorder I'm living in! Today was not so productive. I had a late night out last night and after sleeping in, the most I got accomplished was packing some items in the car to take to my sister's. I spent the afternoon hanging out with the girls and then my sister and I went out to Ciatti's for a celebration dinner. It was fabulous. I really thought I would get something accomplished this evening, but pasta has had a slowing effect on me. I also have a movie waiting for me and Peanut was asking for some snuggle time. Maybe I can do some packing in the living room while I watch the movie. That way I can mix in some intermittent snuggle time too. Sounds like a decent plan.

Thanks for voting. I had more responses affirming I should move to Illinois. Not to let the democratic process down, I've decided to go. I will let the nay sayers off the hook (since they remain anonymous...except for you Blondy) and still invite everyone to my future parties. I've accepted a job in Springfield. I don't know the timing yet, but I will move as soon as I work out all the loose ends around here. My next task will be apartment hunting in Illinois and packing my bags. I'll keep you posted as to when I'm throwing the big going away bash. Happy trails, Wisconsin.

On impulse for lunch I tried out two new recipes. I'm not sure what got into me, but I decided that Black Bean Cakes with Salsa and Coconut-Lime Chicken Soup went well together. They didn't really. The smell of the soup was making me a little apprehensive to try it. It didn't smell bad, it just didn't smell great. But as it simmered away, I prepared the Black Bean Cakes and got one on the skillet while mixing up the chili powder seasoned sour cream topping. I couldn't wait to try them. They contained black beans, drained salsa, jalepeno, chili powder, and cornmeal muffin mix. Looking at the recipe list now, it is obvious to me what is missing. They need salt and garlic. Doesn't everything? Well, in my kitchen, it is a safe bet that salt and garlic will bring anything around to my liking. I'm looking forward to trying it out. I formed the rest of the mix into patties and plan to freeze them. I figure when I cook them, I can season them on the skillet. The bonus was that the soup was delicious beyond all reason! If you like coconut this soup is for you. The coconut flavor mixed with the crisp carrots made me feel like I was actually biting into pieces of coconut. I now know why they put the lime in the coconut. It is a delicious pairing! Check out the soup recipe under Lonely Girl Recipes on the right column. Happy cooking!

At the onset of this week I decided to pack my bags and coerce a friend to accompany me to Illinois for a job prospect. I spent Tuesday getting ready and hit the road shortly before 6pm. We arrived at the hotel just at midnight and after a cool and refreshing Heineken, snuggled into our beds. Wednesday I spent the day visiting my prospect and meeting with important people there. The afternoon was dedicated to seeing the town and the most important bars. I had a nice dinner which faded into a late evening, I believe. Thursday proved to be a long day in the car. I arrived back home shortly before 6pm and snuggled down in my bed for a long nap. Thank goodness Peanut was well cared for and I was able to pick him up this afternoon. I'm glad to have him home. I feel like I missed this week. I've fallen way behind on my household tasks. I guess I know what the weekend has in store for me.

I'm still looking forward to a job. For a girl that gets bored easily, I have had to do quite a bit to keep myself busy, which is okay. It gives me something to do, keeps me positive, and makes me feel like I'm still worth something. I just need to find a company that would appreciate what that is! I have an interview for a temporary position on Monday and am keeping my fingers crossed because some money would be handy. I also have a new prospect far, far away. I'm looking forward to planning a trip there to check it out. I hope that will come together as well. I need a travel buddy and so far that isn't looking promising. I guess I'll keep my eyes on Monday and cross the subsequent bridges when I get to them.
