I'm No Poet

Twas the night before the Xmas Party, alone in my house One creature was stirring, no sign of a spouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes party guests would soon would be there. Peanut was nestled all snug in his bed, While visions of cracker crumbs danced in his head. And me in my apron, drinking water from the tap, Couldn’t settle my brain for a long winter’s nap. I had to wash the kitchen curtains to remove the splatter, from two days ago when I was mixing some batter. I pulled them from the windows in a flash, And once removed, noticed the dust on the sash. I decided to leave it, it’s decorative snow! And under the curtains, nobody would know. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature dust bunny, tumbling near. With a little old vacuum, so noisy, but quick, He and his friends disappeared; it was slick! More rapid than eagles the time seemed to fly, But I sang to Christmas songs as I cleaned up the sty! "Now Dusting! now, Vacuuming! now, Primping and Fixin’! On, Comet! On, Clorox! on Draino and Swifferin’! To the top of the porch! to the top of the walls! I’ve washed away! Washed away! Washed away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. So up and down the steps the faster I flew, With arms full of dishes, and baskets too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard start to play Bon Jovi, who made me fall in love with him this day. "And if I could have one wish come true, I wish every day would be like Christmas, I do.”
