Wonderful

I had the most wonderful Wisconsin weekend! The weather was incredibly gorgeous the whole time. I got to see a lot of friends and all of my family. And I hit up some of my favorite places. I had tenderloin tips and irish potatoes at Sullivan's, martinis and buzzard eggs at The Starlite Lounge, I had an Irish Car Bomb at Top Shots, a couple beers at John's Bar, two campfires at the Hotel Sherman, and a jaunt through Perrot Park.
I really packed a lot of fun in. I can't wait for my big, long summer vacation there. I'm beginning to understand why people have vacation homes in Trempealeau. It sure is a relaxing retreat.

You Name It...

It has probably happened this week. It has been quite the busy week. I'm so glad to have an extra day off tomorrow! I usually load up and drive to Wisconsin after a full work day, but I had a feeling I'd be putting in some overtime tonight. We're approaching 8pm and I'm just getting ready to leave. That would have made for a late, late night tonight.

Right now I'm looking forward to some Peanut snuggles and hitting the hay early so I can get up bright and early to load up my car and hit the open road north. I got my oil changed in the car and all her little bits and pieces checked today so I'm expecting smooth sailing. I'm really looking forward to my little Wisconsin mini vacation.

Oh My, Oh My

After a brief stop at the Hog Stop... Hey... station event. So it happened to be at a tavern... Anyhoo, I stopped to pick up some groceries.

Tonight I finally had an opportunity to make my Chicken Caesar Lasagna I've been dreaming about for a week. Well, I prepped it to be ready to pop in the oven tomorrow night. Tonight I had bruschetta... Can you tell I bought bread for dinner tomorrow? I can't keep my hands off it!

I also tried one of the panna cotta recipes. This Italian custard is called Peaches and Cream. (I made Starwberries and Cream for myself). I am really looking forward to trying that out tomorrow. And let's be honest, I'll probably have bruschetta again for lunch.

What a good food week I'm having!

Long, Hot Sunday

I was up bright and early today to get to the store and pick up more mulch and a few more plants. When I got home I avoided the outdoors at all costs.

I switched my decorations to summer, I read a magazine, I did a little cleaning, and even tried to watch Sherlock Holmes for a second time (I just couldn't get into it).

Finally about three, I decided the 90 degree temps would be cooling and I headed outdoors. I added some beautiful red mulch to the front flower bed and then I dug into the new flower bed.

I had to dig up grass and bricks to make my new bed and it was gruelling to say the least. But I had new plants waiting to get their roots into the soil and I was determined to make that happen today.

I'm so glad it did! I can't wait to watch them grow. I already have been thinking of the next project, but will be glad to take a break next week to go to Wisconsin.

I feel as though I may be feeling the pain from all this work by tomorrow. My hands and blisters already hurt!

Satisfying Saturday

After thoroughly enjoying my time out with the girls last night, I was surprised when I woke up before 8am this morning. I was even more surprised that I was motivated to get out of bed.

Within an hour and a half I was en route to the station to get some pesky work done so I could enjoy the rest of my weekend. Four hours later I called it quits and headed to the garden center to pick out some plants.

I had a hard time deciding, so I just picked a few things and went with it. Of course everything changed when I got home. I did get some color in my front, shade garden. And I planted some gerber daisies in a planter box. There are three more plants, though, that need a home and I started to dig out the grass to make a new bed, so I guess that is where they will go. I just hope I can finish it up tomorrow and get those little guys into the ground. I think I have a long day ahead of me! I'm so glad it is movie night tonight.

There Is A Wrench In My Groove

So, just when I think things are starting to go my way, everything explodes into a million little things to do all at the same time! Not to mention second round interviews have started today for my replacement. We're progressing nicely there! But when will I have time to finish all that work that piled up today?

I feel as though I should be doing something productive, but alas I can't do anything while filling in at the front desk. I guess I'll save my more productive self for the rest of the afternoon and for the time being I'll focus on how productively I'm going to enjoy happy hour. It is Friday, isn't is?

Beware The Groove

What's that? It feels slightly unusual. Strange. It's something I haven't felt in awhile. That's right... I think I found my groove.

I can feel the tide turning. I am already beginning to make my new job my own. As I do that, I feel a little more in control each day and a little less like I'm on a tilt-a-whirl. Whoo hoo!

I plan to celebrate with some boneless BWW, beers, and trivia this week. It has been awhile. I hope I can find my trivia groove when I need it!

Fantastically Busy

It was another fanastically busy Monday. I didn't make it in to work over the weekend, so I started out behind. I'm already regretting that decision. I'll get to this week's work just as soon as I finish last week's.

I figured I'd have to put in some evening hours, but not tonight. Tonight I enjoyed a dinner night out with my boss lady and the rest of the support staff for administrative professionals day. We went out for mexican food, margaritas, and a little tortilla fun! It was way better than any candy bouquet I've ever received. Thanks boss lady! How does next Monday work for margarita night? It was fantastically fun.

Weekend Adventure

A friend asked me out on a little Illinois adventure Saturday. It was fun tagging along on someone else's adventure for once.

We travelled east to Mt. Zion to check out a little shop she wanted to see and had lunch at a shiny diner we just couldn't pass up. Needing a little more of the crafties fix, we headed further down the road to Sullivan, where we spent a good deal of time at Briarwood. It was a lovely shop apart from the bowls of fake cereal, soup, and such stashed on the shelves around the merchandise. Seriously? It was like someone left her dirty dishes lying around. Is that supposed to make me want to buy stuff or clean your store?

Anyhoo, travelling back west proved challenging. We ended up taking a succession of county roads. After 40 minutes and a few tense moments, the iphone's blue dot showed us arriving at Lisa's Antique Mall. Without that trusty device, I feel as though people wouldn't even have known those roads existed (or how to find them).

I finished up my trip with a few small purchases. I found a teal ceramic bird for my porch, a sleigh in the 70/71 Lenox christmas pattern, and a yellow beaded necklace.

As if my day of fun wasn't fun enough, I ended up ordering in Chinese food, heading out to the movie theatre to catch Robin Hood, and taking a tour of Springfield's finest 3am bars. Why oh why is Franny's not open until 3am with my favorite bartender working when I need her (and an Irish car bomb)?
Still... Overall a fantastic weekend.

Seminar Fun

I'm enjoying my initiation into my new position with branding seminars. We had an evening session yesterday at a big fancy private club. I went to the club late afternoon and stayed until about 7:30. When I got home Peanut was overjoyed to see me and was very much ready for supper time.  We took care of our evening business and then hit the hay early since day two of seminars was to start at 4:30am this morning.

Peanut was too excited to sleep and kept woofing at me throughout the night. I woke up about four or five times before finally agreeing to take him out about 1:30am. By 2 I was crawling back into bed for a little cat nap before the big 4am alarm.

As I predicted, I hit the snooze a few times and was up by my 4:30 deadline. After feeding Peanut breakfast he went back to bed. I felt exactly the same, but instead I packed up my laptop and head out early to pick up some coffees before I was expected at the seminar location at 6am.

It is 9:15 and it has already been a long day. Let's be honest, I could go for another little cat nap. Unfortunately I don't see that in the cards for me today. We'll be resetting for the afternoon session in just a few hours and at some point I have to become alert enough to work on some reports on location.

At this point I'm really looking forward to that movie waiting for me at home and a little down time with Peanut on the couch. I feel like I haven't been home in days. That is partly why I've decided that this weekend is not the weekend for a trip to Wisconsin. Maybe next weekend. Things will have settled down by then, right?

What's New?

I worked late tonight in spite of the temp help I got at the front desk. When will I finally have time to do it all? I keep hoping I'll find my groove.

Luckily I got a late dinner and a couple beers as a reward for my hard work today. I tried out a restaurant I've never been to. I was instantly transported to Hayward, WI upon stepping through the door. Animal heads lined the walls and animal and bird carcasses seemed to swoop down to greet me.

I did enjoy the northwoods feel, though, and it made me ready for a northwoods girlie vacation. And the food was pretty good. Good times were had by all.

Kickin' Pizza Sauce

Really the highlight of my weekend was the new pizza sauce recipe. I found a great pizza sauce recipe that I loved awhile back and it included diced tomatoes. Since I'm usually trying to add more healthy to a pizza I figured this was a win. Somewhere along the way I lost that recipe, so I usually add diced tomatoes when trying out a new sauce recipe. However, with the addition of the parmesan cheese and the red pepper, this one really kicks! I highly recommend it. I even heated a little on the side to dip the crust in. Mmmm.

Other than that, I ran my lawn mower out of oil and the poor thing is shot. I tried a little nurturing on Saturday to see if I couldn't get it going and finish cutting the overgrown lawn. My yard was so bad that the creepster lawn mower people (not the purse snatcher) kept stopping by to offer to mow for me. Wanting to keep them away, I was able to arrange to borrow a lawn mower and even got the grass cut for me. What more could I have asked for? Except maybe a kickin' pizza and some red wine (which I also got). Lucky me!

Boot Camp

Boot Camp week is about to come to an end. Next week I'll have a few days of hand-holding (no, not literally), and then I'm on my own! I look forward to the new challenges that await me in my new position as Sales & Promotions Assistant, however with the newness comes a great deal of apprehension.

For now I'm trying to make it through this week without quitting. Oh, and I'm trying to learn as much as possible. Thanks Sarg for trying to teach me everything you know!

Alive And Kicking

What a fitting New Favorite Alice song. I am still, in fact, alive and kicking. It has been a crazy week and I know it is going to get crazier before it gets better. Just breathe. Again.

New Favorite

Last night I dined at the fairly new Dublin Pub at Vinegar Hill. I have been to the original Dublin Pub one time and although the food was good, the crowds and atmosphere left something to be desired. I hoped the atmosphere was better in the old renovated building of the new location and boy did it ever deliver!

The restaurant has an airy feel in the large space with high ceilings. There was a small band playing in the bar area, which looked cozy between the pillars and lower ceiling structure there.

I was feeling a little french dip so I ordered the Dublin Dip with mushrooms, peppers, and mozerella. I can't begin to describe how beautiful it looked when served to me. It was really beyond my expectation and it tasted better than it looked! The sandwich was served with pub chips, and can you really ever go wrong there?

On the way in I noticed an outdoor patio. Upon inquiry, the super-friendly waitress said it isn't ready for outdoor dining yet, but should be in two weeks. I told her I'd be back!

The only drawback to the lofty ceilings and tiled floors was the noise factor. The band added to the noise level, but it was echoey and noisy when they weren't playing as well. Still, all in all, a fantastic dining experience!
