Way Too Short

After a quickie weekend in Wisconsin I feel like my vacation time is always way too short. In my usual fashion I managed to squeeze in quite a bit of fun.

I saw friends, family, and the biggest margarita...not to mention my share of dirty Daddy-O's at the Starlite Lounge.

Now I'm back to the daily grind and really feeling it. I wish every day was like a vacation day.

Should Be Cleaning

I'm tired and stressed and despite already staying up too late, I can't sleep. I got home from work about nine and got my bags packed between dying my hair, laundry, and a little Mad Men.

I'm thoroughly enjoying my fresh, clean sheets, but would like them even better in my sleep...I can imagine.

So I didn't get any of my cleaning done tonight, but I'm afraid if I get up, I won't make it back to bed. Maybe just a little brandy. Why oh why don't I keep Tylenol PM in the house?

She's going to crash and burn in three, two...

Low Key Tuesday

I feel like I accomplished very little today. What do I do all day long? Tomorrow I'm making a note to move around more paper. I always feel more accomplished when I clear away a pile of paper. As a matter of fact, I may just empty my recycling bin tomorrow. That should do it.

I did manage to solve problems, schedule commercials to air on two stations, write a promo, and impress my boss. Oh and all sorts of little tasks that amounted to feeling like I did very little today.

On the homefront, I'm on day two of a walking/jogging schedule. I may be taking tomorrow off in favor of a little household activity. I started the Gundersen Lutheran Minutes in Motion again this year, so I need to get my minutes of activity in, but maybe less intense activity. And I've been ignoring the leftover party mess in my kitchen and all over my sticky floors. I'll just do a lot of lunging while mopping.

Wisconsin Countdown

Three hours of work Sunday and 10.8 hours of work today. I predict I'll have to put in at least eight extra hours in the four days of work this week in order to hit the road with a clear conscious on Thursday. Not that I don't deserve a freakin' day off for cryin' out loud.

Can't wait for some family and friend action in the dairy state. I need a little bit of people being nice to me. Wouldn't that be sweet? Family...just do your best. :)

Taste of Italy Success

I had a slow start to my party prepping on Saturday. I needed some last minute groceries that I didn't have time to pick up on Friday and I realized I had left my stereo at work that I needed for porchtime entertainment.

Once those errands were taken care of, I tackled task after task breaking only for a late lunch. In keeping with the theme of the day, I had a pita pocket with tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. I buttered the outside, sprinkled with garlic powder and grilled. Delish!

My first guests arrived just after I set the pizza crust aside to rise. I was still setting out the meat and cheese trays, grapes, and antipasto. The panna cotta was luckily all set up after I had spent most of the day working on the three layer cappuccino delight. Well worth all the effort. The tiramisu cakes needed a topping of cool whip and a sprinkle of cinnamon before heading out to the buffet.

By the time all that was done I had garlic knots in the oven, spaghetti sauce reheating on the stove, and water boiling for pasta. My pizza crust took a back burner as my guest finished up their tasty treats. I had a lot of cooks in my tiny little kitchen!

We had another pizza, three cheese tortellini, bruschetta, pepperoni stuffed mushrooms, italian salad, risotto, and the Taste of Italy (for the prize of a wine bottle opener)... lasagna! Honorable mentions went to the tortellini and spaghetti, but everything was delicious!

I didn't get nearly enough pictures. I captured this one during a lively game of Fact or Crap (in British accents). What a fabulously fun evening!

Honorary Italian says my Italian co-worker. Strange getting that title on St. Patrick's Day, but I was never one to do things the normal way.

This week I put together a playlist and got the house straightened up for guests. Tonight I spent the evening in the kitchen preparing an artichoke antipasto and tiramisu cakes. I'm not going to lie...I sampled at least four of them. They're mini!

Anyhoo, tomorrow is the last day before my Taste of Italy Party. I have a few stuff and things to wrap up including a trip to a local flag store over my lunch hour tomorrow. I'll probably have to stop for my last minute groceries on the way home and do a few things at home before the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake event tomorrow night.

That's right...that is tomorrow. You can still help me reach my goal by making a donation online. Thanks so much to those who have donated already. I really appreciate it and I hope to have a blast bowling for y'all tomorrow night!

It's going to be a big weekend and it all starts in T minus...

Donations Appreciated!

Hey kids! Once again I'm bowling for kids' sake to help Big Brothers Big Sisters raise money for their one-to-one mentoring programs.

I'm really excited to participate, but with all of the craziness around here lately the bowl date has snuck up on me. I'm bowling this Friday! I would greatly appreciate any donations to help me reach my lofty goal of $250 by this Friday. Did I mention it was this Friday?

Click the link in the right column to head to my donation page and learn more about this fantastic organization.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Signs of Spring

I just cleaned up the yard while Peanut enjoyed the fresh air. I found that piece of rug I suspected Peanut ate and these signs of spring.

Oh My!

Another whole week has slipped by!

This week has been super-busy, but I've been getting out of work at a decent hour. And somehow I'm still not managing to work in a blog. Silly girl. I don't know what I've been spending my time on.

I guess I've enjoyed a few cocktails this week, a few episodes of Mad Men, and a few precious moments snuggling with Peanut admiring my brand new house.

I'm looking forward to a little party planning this weekend. I've got a logo and a plan, now I just have to put it all together and do some shopping. I'm really excited to share pana cotta with my guests next week and figuring out the best way to showcase my show-stopping homemade pizza. And the logo makes me giggle, so that's fabulous.

It's Like A Brand New House!

I completed my week-long painting marathon Saturday morning before my folks arrived for a short visit. I had literally just gotten cleaned up, but the house was in complete disarray. Who would have thought I could handle visitors with my house in such a mess?

We hopped right out the door on a lunch adventure and by the time we got home, the paint was dry and I was ready to start putting the house back together again.

My parents and I enjoyed a beef roast for dinner and a few games of Blockus before retiring to the living room for a movie and popcorn night in. As always they kept me up way past my bedtime.

We all were up fairly early (me due to the squeaky floor alarm), and hit the town for a Charlie Parkers breakfast in our booth. Another trip to the grocery store and a few rounds of dice for Mom and me as Dad loaded the car and then they were off just as quickly as they had arrived. A short, but sweet visit with the folks. Now Peanut and I have nothing to do but enjoy our brand new house!
