On The Up And Up

When you need something most is when you find it. I don't know if it is all the universe asking from my friend, Sherman, but things are happening. I have had countless opportunities cropping up and I'm feeling positive about changes made. I have some exciting things going on at work this week as well as some fun stuff at home. I'm going to head home tonight and clear out the riffraff to make way for the rest of the week. With my Tastefully Simple party on Thursday and Reggae Fest on Saturday, I'm ready to dive head first into the week like a slip-and-slide! Whoo hoo!

At The Movies

Last week I managed to see three movies I had never seen before! It all started Monday with a Walk Hard viewing at a friends house accompanied by a bottle of red wine. Although it turned out to be a late night, it was a pretty good time.

On Friday, I broke the movie theater barrier. I walked right into the Rivoli and stated that I needed a ticket for Definitely, Maybe. I hadn't heard of this one before Friday, but it was better than I expected it would be. At one point, my friend made a comment that we were the only ones drinking and I replied it was because we were surrounded by 16 to 20-year-old girls. If that is your scene, this is your movie! Overall, I would have been happier in the main theater, not the screening room, for this one. Side note: I also forgot how creepy that bathroom is downstairs during the movie when nobody else is around.

Saturday I was supposed to finally get to see the much-acclaimed What The #$*! Do We Know, but after dinner, we got side-tracked at the Bodega until bar time. Ooops. Luckily we already purchased the red wine to go along with it, so I'm saving it for a future showing.

Late Sunday night, I finally sat in front of the television and popped in Thoroughly Modern Millie. I was trying to burn some music to my itunes, so the musical was kind of distracting. Also, I'm not quite sure what the run-time on this was, but they definitely could have cut out the Overture and Intermission music.'s a movie. Either work it into the action, or let it go. I'm not sure if I was displeased with this one because of it's merits or the late hour, but I'm not willing to give it another try. This one was shipped back to Netflix today. Next up: The Cider House Rules.

PS... My annual housewarming party was in full planning swing this weekend. I think you'll be pleased!

Again With The Action

So far today I have gone shopping for gift bags for one of our stations to give away tonight at the World's Largest Office Party. I stuffed those gift bags with gifty things. I curled countless ribbons. I walked down to the La Crosse Center to help with the balloon blowing up fest. The North Hall is now a sea of red and white balloons (and The Remainders equipment... they have a ton of stuff). Now I'm back in the office to change clothes and head back down to the Center so I can grab a cocktail before my ticket-selling shift commences at five. By the end of that shift at 6:30pm, I may be ready for a party. Come on down and join me!

Lights, Camera, Action

Before leaving the house this morning there was a strike of lightening so close that the flash and crash were practically simultaneous. So much so, in fact, that I jumped out of my skin and crossed my fingers that my house wasn't burning down. Once on the road, the downpour began. I couldn't quite make out the vehicles ahead of me on the road. All the while, downtown was experiencing more of the same. By the time I got to work, the rain had slowed, but in the radio building, the lights were dim. The back up generator was keeping the radio stations on the air and little lights glowing in the stairwells, but that was about it. My co-workers gathered around the light sources (the windows) as the realization set in that we can't do anything without computers anymore. And how do you make coffee? Early morning + darkness + no coffee = a prime nap time. Luckily a coworker was willing to head back out to pick up some coffee. While she was gone, we heard rumors of the power outage lasting four hours. As I sat sipping my scalding cappuccino, the lights came on. Like a song from above, everything in the office buzzed into life. Oh happy day! Although I was not prepared to sit around twiddling my thumbs for four hours, I'm still not ready to work.

Love And Beer

Well, beer and cheese for sure. This weekend is City Brewery's Between the Bluffs Beer and Cheese Fest. I'm excited and keeping my fingers crossed that the sky is raining itself out today so that it will be blue skies and sunshine tomorrow. I suggest you cross your fingers too. It looks pretty bleak out there. I'm heading off to happy hour to practice a bit before tomorrow. Toodles.

All We Need Is Some Ice Cream And A Hug

Although I had quite an enjoyable evening out at comedy last night, I'm experiencing a lack of motivation today. I've been doing a lot of playing around online. I added a new song to my mypace profile from Bowling for Soup called Shut Up And Smile. Now I can't get it out of my head. La la la la la... Surfing through friends of friends (starting with The World's Largest Six Pack) I've found a myspace page called "Baked Potato" with handy cooking tips and friends like "Sweet and Sour Chicken" and "Hot Dog." The internet is quite the interesting place to visit. I'm keeping myself quite amused. Next up... work? I do have some coupons to cut for the big WLOP next week. Maybe that will lift my working spirits.

Here I Sit

I'm waiting to receive my comedy information for May so I can make flyers to get to the club tonight. Why is it always last minute? Luckily I am planning to attend comedy this evening, so I could hand deliver the flyers. The last man on the last flyer is John Bush. His bio says "high-speed comedic ride" and I always enjoy a high-speed comedic ride. I better make my reservations. Next week, there is a hiatus from comedy due to our station's big World's Largest Office Party. I still can't believe it is only a week away. I think I may be a good girl this year and go home early due to the fact that I probably won't have any friends there. Of course, I do say that every year. I guess time will tell. Gundersen Lutheran gave us tape measures this year instead of pedometers for Minutes in Motion, so there is little chance of another incident like last year. Check out the blog from last year about that: My sister still claims it is one of my best.

Clean Bill Of Health

Peanut visited the vet last Saturday and left with a clean bill of health... almost. He does still need his teeth cleaned and is now showing signs of gingivitis. He may be getting another vet visit for this in May courtesy of the U.S. government. He is aging ever so gracefully with only his hips giving him the majority of his troubles. I forgot to ask about his limping gait, and feel that might deserve a call back to the doc. I wasn't thinking about it while he was sitting on the table, not moving! I should have made a list. Apart from being a little sleepy, he handled his shots very well. He didn't eat any treats at the vet, but was hungry by supper time. Really, this was the highlight of our weekend!

Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful, And Most Wonderful And Yet Again, Wonderful

I had a wonderful time last night! I'm so happy my friends and family were able to join me for a gathering. The chicken tortilla soup was delectable. The corn muffins had a sweetened hint of soy. The Mexican wedding cookies fell pray to nibbling right from the beginning. And most wonderful, the Coronas were limey and the margaritas chilled. I think Peanut even enjoyed himself. We look forward to hosting our next dinner party!

Dinner Night @ Home

I spent last night elbow deep in chicken tortilla soup. I put together a crock pot with chicken, peppers, Mexican tomatoes, garlic, lime, and chicken broth. It smelled savory last night, I can only imagine what wonderful aromas are wafting through my home today as it simmers. With a quick stop at the grocery store yesterday, I picked up the necessities to make corn bread when I get home tonight and Mexican wedding cookies which I made last night under the watchful eyes of a bottle of red wine and a friend. Although I didn't finalize my decision about serving pieces (I know I'm weird), I feel as though I'm all ready to get mexxed up! I can't wait to get home, crack open the bottles of margarita, slice up a lime for the Coronas and dig into the Fiesta dip and guacamole. My friends don't even know what they are in for when they come over to my home for "dinner." {insert evil laugh here}

So, little did I know that our radio station is getting a visit from the big rock stars Hanson today. Apparently this morning they will be mmmbopping all over the Liquid Lounge. Oh the life of a radio station employee! You never know what you're gonna get. Next up, U2? I can only hope. On a brighter note, it is Free Food Wednesday today at work. Last night I whipped up a crockpot of chicken enchilada and am really looking forward to trying my new recipe. Only three hours, twelve minutes, and a little mmmbop to go!

A Campfire Weekend

I think campfire season is officially here. I attended a campfire (not the first of the season) in Tremp City on Friday. For most of the evening I survived in jeans and a sweatshirt. I didn't even have layers on underneath! We prepared delectable smores and spoke of succulent lobsters. In Holmen on Saturday, due mostly to a smaller campfire, I did have need of a jacket. I savored a steak and a bottle of red wine while my sister wrangled her feverish young child and my brother-in-law scooted off to Wal-Mart for a new thermometer. Once the campfire was finally underway, it was most pleasant with a touch of ooey gooey marshmallows! The campfire season is on.

Birthday Bash

Thanks to my doggy sitter, I will be heading out tonight straight from work to celebrate 95.7 The Rock's tenth birthday. A few of us are convening at John's Bar to kick off the festivities and then heading over to the invitation-only party at Loons. The evening promises a retrospective look at The Rock, prizes (not for employees, I'm sure), and surprises. I'm hoping the surprises are something worth talking about! I'm mostly looking forward to the cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Here's to another ten!

Classic Cash

I needed to design Classic Cash for our upcoming World's Largest Office Party and given no real direction, decided to use the personalities of the radio station as faces on the bills. After being printed on brightly colored paper, there is something about the over-sized funny money that delights me. I'm so happy!

Dinner Night!

I'm so excited for dinner night tonight with the girls! We are going to Manny's for some Mexican cuisine and if I know myself, margaritas. Due to my Dom Perignon windfall, it feels as though this outing won't even cost me anything. Now I know how my sister feels to be able to get out of the house to do something. Of course, I get out to go to work every day. Joy! We only have one seminar session left this afternoon. I can hardly wait until it is over. Usually it doesn't pertain to me at all and is pretty pointless. I've just got to focus on the pleasant night out ahead!

Free Lunch

Today is a seminar day at the radio building. I was rewarded for having to be here at 7:15am with a donut. Just what I need. I can't even wake up early enough to exercise and eat a healthy breakfast when I have to be here before dawn. At least we are blessed with a free lunch from Piggy's. Apart from the onions, fairly delicious. Next up is a seminar to sit through. I can hardly wait.
