Another Week

I was just saying how time is going to fly and before you know it I will be back in Wisconsin getting all of my things to bring back with me. Then I log in and see the last time I posted was almost a week ago. It is happening already!

I've gotten all my boxes (that I brought with) unpacked. I need to fold up the boxes and stow them away in the basement. I wasn't feeling motivated last night to do that after FINALLY unpacking the kitchen boxes. I think I was resisting because I know I don't have that much room and I didn't know where I was going to put everything. Well, I found places for the stuff I already brought anyhow.
Peanut and I have thoroughly enjoyed weekend porch time. We also have enjoyed snuggly movie nights (more snuggly than before with just one section of couch) with the portable DVD player (yes that is it on the little end table).
I've already added some storage to the bathroom and have found that the bedroom closet is much bigger than I thought. I have all my seasonal clothes in there with out of season clothes up above behind the purse display! My in-season shoes also have a convenient home within reach.
The dining room looks pretty empty without any kitchen chairs! I also have plans to add a corner office here. The bedroom is pretty put-together except I don't have my vanity and forgot to bring a comforter! Peanut is enjoying resting on the bed anyhow.
So, there it is... all of my boxes are unpacked and I'm settling in to my new home with Peanut. I'll try to stay on top of this whole blogging thing now that I don't have internet at home. Hopefully I will be able to change that in the near future.

I've arrived back home in Springfield. After a long, busy weekend in Wisconsin, it feels good to be home. We weren't able to bring as many things as I would have liked (the kitchen chairs got left behind), but I was amazed at what the Packing Wizard was able to fit in the tiny little trailer, truck, and car. The packing job even heralded praise from one helpful unloader. Everything is unloaded, but not unpacked. I'm heading back to work tomorrow and the Packing Wizard is going to apply his expertise to assembling the kitchen table, some storage shelves, and other miscellaneous projects around the house. I'm looking forward to a long weekend of unpacking with my favorite companion, Peanut. Last night I was sitting in the middle of my West Salem kitchen floor eating Chinese food out of the carton at midnight. Tonight I am a resident of Springfield. I'm so glad my dad is here to enjoy the new house. I'm back in the (dry) hotel until I can get my necessities over to the house. That will probably happen on Friday. I can't wait to finally be reunited with Peanut for good!

I feel like I am on vacation in Wisconsin! I got into town Friday afternoon and stopped into John's Bar for a few cocktails. Then I hopped on over to W.S. for Friday fish with the fam. Afterwards I managed to get my luau decorations loaded in the truck for a party rental and I got all the screws and nails out of the walls before calling it a night.

I started Saturday with a bloody mary at the Bodega and then wandered over to the salon to get my hair cut. I walked out of there with rock star hair and headed to Tremp City for the big reggae festival. It was really windy, and a little chilly, but we had a great time sitting outside by the Mississippi drinking a couple beverages. I managed to make it over to the Tremp Hotel long enough to have a walnut burger, but headed back out early.

I ended up sitting around a campfire in my friend's back yard for the rest of the night. This morning I headed back over for a pancake breakfast with all of my friends. I lounged around and drank coffee while they made me a super-sized breakfast buffet of scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, and orange juice. *sigh* What more could you ask for?

This afternoon I finally got to some cleaning and prepping at the W.S. house and actually showed it to my cousin. I'm off to the theatre tonight to usher and see "The Producers" and hopefully tomorrow I can get two rooms painted. Wish me luck!

Great Flood of '09

You have no idea what 70+ mile per hour winds are like until you experience it at the Springfield Hilton. The building was creaking and groaning constantly and it was loud. I was seriously scared that the building would go down. I was trying to go to sleep thinking, will they tell us if we need to evacuate the building? Of course they won’t. They don’t want to freak people out, so we’d probably find out as it was going down. Needless to say, I slept with my clothes on last night…just in case. Then I woke up this morning to quiet…except the sound of water dripping. I looked in my washer/dryer closet and didn’t see any water. I opened my bedroom door and stepped right into soggy carpet. I emptied garbage cans and placed them below with towels on the floor to soak up the soggy. Then I did my pilates and took a shower. When I started getting ready, I heard dripping in the bathroom. Water was running from the ceiling and through the light fixture onto all of my things. I found one more garbage can and put it up on the counter. When I realized it was only catching about half of the water, I removed all of my bathroom items. Stepping out of the bathroom right before I left for work I realized that the garbage cans in the hall must not be doing the job 100% either because the sogginess had spread down the hall to the bathroom. I double checked my washer/dryer closet one more time and found a great deal of sogginess in there even though I still didn’t see a drip. I looked up and could see where the seams were on the ceiling like water was starting to soak through. I moved everything out of my closet to the bed. I hope all of my stuff isn’t ruined by the end of the day. I think they were shutting off water when I left. I heard some action and when I stopped at the front desk to let them know my room was flooding they already were aware of the situation. The guy seriously asked me if I got all my stuff out. Yeah, like while I was getting ready for work and trying to find receptacles to catch all the water, I moved out of the apartment. I’m feeling crabby. Grrrronimo.

Moppy McMopperson

Tonight I found a new Wal-Mart since the last one I went to was small and dirty and scary. I didn't even Mapquest it before I went out! This one is fairly new and it had the full Super side, so that is handy. I purchased a mop and broom as well as some Apple Cider Vinegar to clean up the wood floors at the new place. Everything looked really tidy and I didn't think I'd have to do any cleaning before I moved in. However, every time I had been there, the landlord had windows and doors open. On Sunday when I went to measure the rooms and was sitting on the floors, I noticed a distinct cat smell. As a matter of fact my allergies were protesting in their loudest sniffles, sneezes, and runnyness. Needless to say I picked up some allergy medicine at the Wal-Mart too. As luck would have it, when I got to the house the windows and doors were open. And there was a much stronger smell from the caulk on the new windows (I presume). I mopped up the floors anyhow and plan to do the same every night until I find something that helps me out. Hopefully I'll get that resolved before I leave for Wisconsin this week!

I've added a gadget at the bottom of my page for followers. Who is going to be the first? You know you want to! First person to follow me gets a complimentary breakfast in Springfield when you come to visit me. He he he. I also became followers of my favorite blogs even though none of them have updated in ages. I really hope they do soon so I can see how it works!

Weekend Activities

This is my first weekend in Springfield with nothing to do. This week has just flown by. I can't believe I didn't get everything done I wanted to do. I'll have to see if I can tie up some loose ends this weekend. I'm hoping to take another walk to the post office tomorrow morning to check my work's PO Box for my Netflix movie. I walked over tonight, but the lobby was already closed for the day. If the weather is nice for walking and I get moving in the morning, I should be golden. That will mean movie night in for me tomorrow. The only other agenda item would be finding a laundromat to do my laundry. Since I'm not feeling really keen on that idea, I'm thinking I'll just go shopping for a few clothing items to tide me over for the week. I'll have a big pile of dirty laundry to take back to WI with me, but I'd just rather do it in the comfort of my own home. After I'm done I can pack up the washer and dryer to accompany me back to Springfield. Maybe by the end of the weekend I'll have something exciting to blog about. In the meantime, I think I need to check out what is on the television for movies and maybe catch up on my magazine reading. Joy. PS...I did make a killer new recipe tonight. Check it out!

A Whole Week

Today marks my first week in Springfield. I have unpacked my things (in a hotel). I've completed five days of honest-to-goodness, full-time work! I've shopped at two grocery stores (who knew cheese was a specialty item). I've purchased a portable DVD player from Wal-Mart (after an hour of driving around to find the store). And best of all, I have a checking account and keys to my new place! It almost feels like I live here. I can't wait to head back to WI and get the rest of my things. Oh, and see my friends and family! *smooches*

Rough Waters In The Sea Of Newness

Today I planned to open a checking account, deposit my checks, and give a check to my new landlord when I signed the lease. When I got to work, the radio told me I should go to this credit union. I thought...hey...I should go to that credit union. I did some online research and found out they have a branch on the road between my house and work. How convenient is that? So at lunchtime I headed over there to open an account. Snag. My credit score wasn't good enough to open an account, but they said if I had an Illinois driver's license they would open one for me. Okay. I'm on my way to give my landlord a check. I guess I need a check now. Besides, don't I need a permanent address to get an Illinois driver's license? How do I go about doing that without the bank account to write the check to pay the landlord? I had applied online at another bank the day before, so I gave them a call back. They were much more customer friendly and after doing much of the work over the phone, I headed over there to close the deal. I forgot my second form of ID in WI, so that was a problem, but one they overlooked, thank goodness. The other problem was that although my business manager had given me my checks early, she still had dated them for tomorrow. They spent a good amount of time tracking down if it was okay to cash them. By the time I met with my landlord, signed the lease, got the keys, and exchanged a few words, I was rushing back to work. The whole ordeal took up a good chunk of the afternoon and I really felt spent by the time I got back to doing my job. I'm so glad I got a few cocktails in at Docker's before heading home. Hopefully after the chicken comes out of the oven I'll be motivated to do some freelance work. I hope.

Alice Rocks

Seriously. I love Springfield's music alternative. If you have the means check out the link on the bottom right side of my page to listen live. I've been listening to the radio station all day at work and rarely do I hear a song I don't like. Even better is that I keep hearing songs I don't know that are fantastic! My new favorite Alice song is Kings of Leon: Use Somebody.
