Fresh Possibility

RIPTYDZ AT MYRTLE BEACH, SC SHIRLEY & LISA

A fresh new day in a new town! Nothing but possibility lay ahead, but I enjoyed sleeping in. The day of driving really takes it out of me. Because it was the first of the month, I took advantage of the alone time to update my social media sites (facebook, Instagram, Twitter) with the fresh new Pampered Chef specials for the month. I headed out to pick up some supplies for the room and that discount store was bananas busy! Then I spent a few hours catching up on a few blogs.

I wrapped up my writing just in time to jet off to the airport to pick up my travel companion from the airport. Considering I was staying at a hotel, she turned out to be my host for this leg and was an integral part of my trip. More on that later. For this moment, I was just so glad she was there with me in Myrtle Beach! We both really enjoyed the movie "Shag" from the 80's and I always dreamed of making a girlfriends trip to Myrtle Beach. While our whole group of girls couldn't be there, I was thrilled to be able to share the experience with one of them.

We stopped for a few errands that day before heading to the hotel to prepare for an evening out. On our way back into Myrtle Beach, we cruised a good portion of Ocean Boulevard and were delighted to see the Diplomat Hotel, which is featured in the movie. (Check out other filming locations.) As darkness descended around us and the carnival lights began to pulsate, we slowly made our way to to RipTydz Oceanfront Grille & Rooftop Bar

Although there was a 45-minute wait for a table at 8pm on a Sunday night, we were delighted to find a seat at the bar to wait while we caught up on the last few weeks over a strawberry daiquiri and pina colada. This is where my host asked if we could co-create a blog for this part of our journey together. She knows some artists that co-create paintings and thought it would be cool to look at the exact same experience through the lens of two different people. Quite opposite people in many ways, I might add, so of course I agreed!

By the time we were seated at our beachfront table, it was nearly dark outside, although a few folks were still shooting bags on the beach below our window. Lightening began flashing off in the distance and by the time our food was in front of us, the rain had begun to pour down. I had an amazing chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato, bacon, and bbq sauce on what may have been the best gluten-free bun I've ever had. That tomato was so fresh, I had to eat it even when I got too full to finish the rest of the sandwich.

We made friends with our server, who seemed to delight in my host's positive vibes she throws out wherever she goes. To be honest she had already made several friends since arriving in town a few hours earlier, including a gas station employee who was working the part time job to save money for a cruise. These are definitely things I wouldn't have known without my host by my side and I was so glad she was there with me.

We were both tired from our big day out. Perhaps my host a little more so after a day of travel from Wisconsin. We retreated after the rain let up enough for us to get to our car and called it a night back at the hotel. It was a beautiful first day getting the lay of the land!
